Cloud Dough

Believe it or not there are a number of really exciting experiments that you can do at home in the kitchen. Check out the post below for a fun experiment that will entertain kids for hours.

Cloud dough requires only 2 common household ingredients, and it’s ready in minutes. It smells heavenly, and it’s a delight to run your fingers through!

For this experiment you will need 1kg flour, 125g baby oil, oil based food colouring and a large tub. First of all you will need to mix the flour and baby oil together to create the dough. Once you have created the dough spit the dough into four different parts and add different coloured food colouring to each (see picture below).

Make it smelly!

You could also try making it smell this could include making it chocolatey by adding some coca powder.

Why not add food flavouring extracts such as banana or strawberry to give it a fruity smell. The colours could be combined with the smell such as red for strawberries and yellow for bananas- helping to aid development.

Make it sparkle!

This is a simple technique that will get kids excited- especially if they are a frozen fan. All you need to do is select a coloured glitter and add it to the mixture to make it sparkle and shine (so pretty).

Make it cold!

Finally try freezing your dough for a chilly sensory experience. This is great for summer time fun!

If kids ever get bored of this activity try adding some baking powder to the mixture. You will then need to add droplets of vinegar to the dough which will create a fizzing sound. Add more and more vinegar until you create a foam- creating even more fun for kids!
