Formby: Summer Holidays

Home education science sessions in SomersetFun Science is here in the Summer holidays with awesome experiments to watch and do, things to make and items to explode! Each day is run by highly trained Fun Scientists with enhanced DBS checks and first aid training and is jam-packed with experiments, games, crafts and explosions. The club will run on 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th August from 9am-3pm at the 1st Formby Scout Hut, Foot Path, Rosemary Lane, Formby, L37 3HB.

The days are perfect for children aged 5-11.

14th August – Slime and Other Strange fluids – Did you know that slime is a non-Newtonian fluid? It doesn’t follow the rules that Isaac Newton said fluids should! And it can’t decide if it is a solid or a liquid! We’ll be making and playing with a range of different slimes before observing the properties of other non-Newtonian and unusual-acting substances and carrying out our own investigations.

15th August – Climate Chaos! – Discover the science behind climate and the weather in a really fun way. There’ll be tornado races, giant wind bags, rainbow glasses, leafblowers and even the chance to make your own snow and (safe) lightning (with hair-raising results!)

16th August – Polymer PandemoniumPolymers are everywhere. From polythene bags to polystyrene packing chips to baby’s nappies, we use them every day. But some of them have extremely cool and unusual properties, like turning water solid, creating snow and becoming slime! We’ll investigate a variety of polymers and find out how to use them to play some pretty cool tricks on our friends.

17th August – Pirate Science – Ahoy me hearties! Have you ever thought about the science behind piracy? Well we have and we’ve created a pirate-themed extravaganza of scientific exploration for the adventurous of heart. Girls and boys will love this special day. Dressing like a pirate is optional but encouraged though we can’t guarantee it won’t get messy….

18th August – Freaky Forensics (CSI Formby)! – Come and join CSI Formby as we look at how science can help detect and solve crime. Once you have been trained in the basics, you’ll get the chance to put your detective and forensic powers to good use as we solve a mysterious crime together.
