This club is designed for children who have either completed our beginners coding course or have experience coding using a blockly editor. If you are unsure if this course is suitable for your child, please email and we can advise. When you sign up, you will receive a range of components in the post so that you have everything you need to complete the sessions. There is also the option to purchase a BBC Micro:bit at a reduced price if you don’t already have one.

All sessions will be run online via zoom so are suitable for children across the UK. Coding sessions will last for one hour per week (Tuesdays 11am-12pm) and children will be working with the BBC Micro:bit and blockly coding. Children will be able to share their coding creations with one another and a scientist will be on hand to help with any tricky coding bugs! If you miss a session, we will send you written and video instructions and be on hand to help out throughout the week so that your child can catch up easily.

The price is £6 per family per session plus £5 for a pack of equipment which will be posted to you and includes a piezo speaker, RGB light, breadboard, copper wire, blue tack, crocodile clips, jumper leads and resistors. Children will be able to keep all this kit after the sessions have finished. Please note, each booking comes with one pack of additional equipment. If you would like additional equipment packs, please let us know and these can be paid for separately.

You will need a computer (mac or pc) with internet access and a USB port. A webcam is desirable but not essential and there is no requirement for your child to be on camera but it does make it easier for us to help if we can see what they are doing. You will need a BBC Micro:bit plus USB cable and battery pack, all of which can be purchased from us for £15 or can be found at various shops online and offline.

27th April -11am- Using sensors – In this session we will be experimenting with more of the Micro:bit’s built in sensors including the temperature sensor and light meter to make a night light and thermometer.

4th May – 11am – Using a speaker – Children will be coding their own tunes and connecting a mini piezo speaker (included) to their Micro:bit to be able to play them.

11th May – 11am – Making a wire following game – We will be connecting additional wires to our Micro:bit to turn it into a wire following game which can keep score.

18th May – 11am  – Breadboarding – Children will be using a breadboard (included) to make and test an electronic circuit and then using the Micro:bit and RGB LED (included) to code a colour changing light and a flashing light.
