Bristol October Holiday Club
Fun Science is back for more scientific fun in October 2020 (October half term). Days are suitable for children aged 4-11 and all sessions have a first aider on site. This club will be held on the 27th, 28th and 29th October from 10am – 3pm at Cotham Parish Church, Cotham Road, Bristol, BS6 6DR.
IMPORTANT – Due to children needing to remain in one ‘bubble’ we are only accepting bookings for all three days and are unable to offer one or two day bookings.
Due to Covid-19 we have had to significantly reduce our numbers of children and increase the number of staff needed per child. Because of this, we have had to increase our costs slightly in order to be able to run. Fortunately, the lower numbers of children and higher numbers of staff per child will mean that we are able to run activities that would not have been possible in a larger group such as coding and using breadboards to make electronic projects so we hope the clubs will still represent great value to parents.
Before booking please visit https://fun-science.org.uk/holiday-clubs-covid-19-response/ to read about the adaptations we have had to make to our holiday clubs due to Covid-19.
27th October – Dinosaur Dig – Become a palaeontologist as we rescue dinosaurs from fizzing eggs and then identify them. We will also be using specialist tools to excavate real fossils from rocks which the children will get to take home with them. Other activities will include making fossils, learning how dinosaurs lived and testing theories about why the dinosaurs died out. We’ve even got our hands on some REAL fossilised dinosaur poo!
28th October – Human Body – This day is full of gross science! We will be mixing up bogies, seeing how poo is made, exploring what is in blood and finding out about our DNA. Then we will be becoming medical researchers and analysing ‘urine’ samples to find out what is wrong with our patients. There will even be a few optional dissections with an alternative activity available for any squeamish scientists.
29th October – Inventions and Coding – Learn all about the science of the future! We will be coding on a micro:bit and investigating ‘smart’ materials such as thermochromic threads, hydrochromic materials and memory metal. Children will also have a chance to make their own small electronic project to take home. These will be as simple or complex as children like – younger children may choose to make a simple torch or moving toy and older children may wish to build a more complex circuit on a breadboard and add in resistors and switches!
Cost – £75 per child for the 3 day block.
